Solutions For a Transitioning Economy
52% of India’s workforce is in agriculture, producing 80% of the country’s food. Yet even as agriculture remains a crucial sector of Indian society, this majority workforce contributes only 14% to GDP. This change in economics and culture creates broad challenges: how to economically improve agricultural yield, increase farming efficiency without raising costs, and understand the impact of the changing workforce. The Tata Center is focused on developing technological and systems interventions that will improve overall food security while making farms more profitable and farmers more capable.
