Mohammad Qasim

Mohammad Qasim received his BS from American University of Sharjah (AUS), UAE, in 2011 and his MS from Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, UAE, in 2013. He is a currently a PhD student in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at MIT. He is working on designing advanced, split phase induction motors for home appliances in India. His work aims to provide resource-constrained communities with affordable and efficient motor-driven appliances.

Prior to MIT, Mohammad worked as a research engineer at Masdar Institute from 2013 to 2015 where he developed an artificial neural network based power system frequency estimator, phase-locked-loop techniques, and control schemes for shunt active power filters. His main research interests include electric machine design, power electronics applications, and power quality enhancement.
