Matthew is a Master’s student in the Technology and Policy Program. Prior to MIT, Matthew spent four years working in Energy Efficiency and Energy Management with EnerNOC. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering and holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Matthew is interested in understanding and reducing the risk of off-grid electricity solutions. Often times entrepreneurs and customers in this space face a myriad of choices for energy service and are simultaneously confronted with an ever-changing policy landscape. Using both technical and financial models, Matthew evaluates existing and future architectures for these systems. His research aims to improve energy service to rural customers while providing feasible business opportunities for local energy providers.
