Department of Mechanical Engineering
Pulkit Shamshery is an SM candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT. He is part of the Global Engineering and Research (GEAR) Lab advised by Professor Amos Winter. The focus of GEAR lab is to design and create simple, elegant technological solutions for use in highly resource-constrained environments.
Pulkit’s research interests include design for emerging and developing countries, dynamics, biomimetic design and fluid/solid mechanics. At MIT, his masters work focuses on designing an energy-efficient drip irrigation system for smallholder farmers. More specifically, he has focused on reducing the pressure losses within a drip emitter by understanding the fundamental working characteristics of a conventional emitter and optimizing it. Currently, he is working on optimizing the whole drip network which includes the pipe layout, losses in filters and pumping system.
Pulkit earned his BA in Engineering and Master in Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, Trinity College.
Pulkit has lived and studied in four continents and in his spare time he likes to play squash and cricket, watch most sports and listen to audio books.
