Cailinn Drouin / Mechanical Engineering

Cailinn is a Master’s student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BA in French and Francophone Studies. She is currently working with Professor Ignacio Perez-Arriaga and the REM project team on the development of enhanced software modeling capabilities.

Cailinn’s research includes the identification of contextually-specific geospatial parameters that have non-negligible effects on the cost of rural electrification in developing countries. With the REM project, she is expanding the software’s ability to incorporate the topographical constraints of a planning region into the individual and community-level electrification mode decision process. The goal is to ensure that the total system costs accurately reflect the financial burdens inherent to construction and maintenance of electrical infrastructure in these areas.
