The focus of this project is to determine the technical and socioeconomic requirements that must be satisfied to create water and sanitation systems for poor, small, rural villages in India. We will engage the entire chain of stakeholders that would impact the manufacture, distribution, financing, maintenance, and usage of village-scale water and sanitation systems. The results of this project will be design requirements for technology that will be scalable, economically viable, and ideally disseminated through free market mechanisms. The project will position Prof. Winter’s GEAR Lab to attract additional funding to create and implement village-scale water and sanitation systems.
